response statement

“In our time of disturbance and radical change, we are crossing a threshold, a portal, or an unseen bridge from one world to another. It could be said that the bridge is either collapsing beneath us, or being made as we walk together, in the long twilight hours when on civilization gives way to another.”

Earth Angel amplifies the voices of scientists - advising us to proactively curb emissions, transition to a sustainable economy, and to safeguard public health. The consequences are dire if we do not tackle these crises together.

For nearly a decade, Earth Angel has been a leader in the sustainable production movement by bridging the gap between policy and practice. Leading on sustainability means not only reducing the environmental impact of our industry, but also increasing the social impact of our industry, including crew health & well-being.

In continuation of that commitment, our renewed Eco PA Training implements and reflects the direction of leading public health voices including the CDC and WHO and we will perpetually monitor recommendations as understanding of this novel virus deepens.

our commitments

  • Our masked Eco PAs will still be equipped with sanitizer, PPE, and sanitation supplies.

  • Equipment supported by the Eco PAs such as waste receptacles, water refill stations, and hand washing stations will be maintained in the most hygienic manner and positioned to allow for social distancing.

  • Eco PAs are taught proper donning and doffing of gloves and essential PPE protocols. Food grade latex/nitrile gloves will be worn when performing maintenance on water refill stations.

  • Diligent infection prevention care will be applied across all functions. Frequent hand washing will be performed - before and after task. Hand washing has been a cornerstone of public health for centuries and absolutely remains key in our standard operating procedures. (Though this is a respiratory pathogen, if the surfaces we touch and our hands are clean, the incidence of spread is further reduced.)

  • Increased crew education will be prioritized to minimize waste sorting. If waste sorting needs to be corrected, Eco PAs will not use bare hands or gloved hands. With gloves, Eco PAs will use a [claw picker] or comparable tool to correct sorting.

  • Whenever possible, separate personnel will be recommended for water/food operations and waste/sanitation operations.

  • We stand by the 100+ virologists, epidemiologists, and health experts from 18 different countries in supporting reusable utensils as the safer choice under basic hygiene. Reusables have a verifiable trace of cleaning and disinfection, which is the most crucial component to ensuring a product’s safety.

  • Virtual trainings and production meetings will be prioritized whenever possible.

a green recovery

As vigilant stewards, we are ever mindful of new discoveries that continue to shape how we coexist with all things--even on the micro-level. Animal-related disease outbreaks like COVID-19 are occurring more frequently as a result of the climate crisis and human destruction of natural habitats. To protect ourselves and prevent future pandemics, we must prevent destruction of nature and reestablish industry standards with a “green recovery.”

Strip away the script, every film production is its own community. We have essentially all the departments that a city needs to function and we are able to accomplish incredible things because of that.

Snow in summer? No problem. Recreate Ancient Rome? Coming right up. Repurpose our expertise as an emergency response team to support the frontline medical workers with PPE and food? Tell us where and when. There is no other industry like the entertainment production industry.

Every film production is also a constant manufacturing engine, immigrating to different spaces temporarily while consuming a massive amount of resources, leaving behind a massive footprint in emissions and waste. There is no other industry like the entertainment production industry.

It's not easy to get a second chance, but we are at a crossroad with a rare opportunity to rewrite the rules.

Human health and well-being are linked to planetary health as we are all part of nature. Our planet is already uninhabitable for a significant portion of the human population, resulting in food shortage, water deficiency, and mass migration.

The scientists have made their stance clear and the next generation has made their voice resoundingly clear...

Let's build towards a better future that's safer for us and the next seven generations to come.
